- Is my data protected?
Abeedoo does not cache email content on our servers outside of your user session. We do keep a protected cache of meta-information of your mailbox to speed up the access time. This meta information is restricted to email header information and does not include any content.
Further, we communicate to your exchange server over an ssl encrypted channel. We also communicate to you over an SSL encrypted channel. This ensures that at no point in the communication chain is your data exposed.
Our servers are housed in the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud, in secure, world class datacenters.
- What is imap?
Imap is a standard mail protocol supported by all major email clients. In many ways it was a successor to POP mail.
POP mail worked by communicating to the mail server and downloading local copies of all requested mail. This was obviously bandwidth intensive, and made mail management ( especially folder management ) difficult.
IMAP is a protocol that allows remote management of a mailbox so that all email is stored on the server and can be manipulated remotely.
In the context of imap2Exchange, abeedoo does not store any email on our servers. We just act as a 'translation' service to convert the requests from the end-user (imap-client) to 'webdav' to speak to the exchange server.
- How does it work?
imap2exchange acts a a proxy server between your mail client and an internet facing Microsoft Exchange server (Outlook Web Access).
This allows unmodified imap clients like the iPhone or thunderbird to communicate to Exchange, even if the exchange administrators have disabled imap.
